Keynote Speaker is Dr Louise Thomas from Aus Catholic University.
The Role of the Teacher in Supporting Mathematics Learning in a Play Based Context.
It is a significant issue for 2010 when all Kindergartens, C&K's Preps etc are to be expected to
provide up to 20 hours of curriculum (some of that beginning Maths concepts) per week.

Kerry White "Investigations in mathematics".

Investigations allow children to explore concepts and plan ways to solve problems, answer questions and address concerns they have about everyday experiences.  Through planning, participating in and communicating about investigations, children engage in higher order thinking processes and develop a range of questioning skills.  This session will look at developing and assessing investigations as part of an Early Years Mathematics program.

Lydia Berndt - Year 1 teacher Jindalee SS
Session on mathematical activities to use with an IWB including useful websites.

Steven Nisbet "Exploring 2-dimensional shapes".
This is a practical workshop of activities to explore the properties of 2-dimensional shapes with Pattern Blocks. Processes of sorting, comparing, counting and measuring will be used to discover some of the geometric properties of squares, triangles, hexagons, trapeziums and rhombuses.

Robyn Anderson “Bits and Bobs: A Collection of Activities to Teach Problem Solving Skills”

Problems lead students to search for and find patterns in mathematics. This workshop will explore ways to assist young students to develop deep mathematical knowledge, reasoning ability and communication skills to investigate and solve problems.
Other presenters include Rhonda Horne, Christie Mieklejohn, Kerry White, Chris Whitelaw, Jan Cavanagh, Judy Hartnett, Katie Makar, Katie Lewis and Charlotte Pezora.
